Network Setup

You have four options for setting up MING Chat Monitor on your network:

OPTION 1: DEFAULT CONFIGURATION - CONNECTED TO A HUB

MING Chat Monitor will work on most networks and its default configuration will allow you to manage all instant messaging immediately.  The computer with MING Chat Monitor is connected to a Hub on your network which eventually connects to a router (or PROXY):

OPTION 2: PORT MONITOR ON MANAGED SWITCH

If you have a managed switch, you can set the switch to do "port mirroring", "management port" or similar feature, which allows network administrators to monitor LAN traffic on any computer connected to one designated switch port. You can configuration your switch with the documentation. If you are unfamiliar with managed switches or port monitoring, the above "hub" option is the easiest to implement. Here's what the your network will look like:

OPTION 3: HUB BETWEEN ROUTER & PRIMARY SWITCH

You can put a hub between the Router and the Primary Switch.  The Chat Monitor computer is plugged into the hub, the router is plugged into the hub and the switch is plugged into the hub.  Using this configuration, the Chat Monitor computer can monitor all of the computers in your network. Here's what the your network will look like after the hub has been installed:

OPTION 4: INSTALL THE MONITOR SOFTWARE ON PROXY SERVER

If you have a Windows-based proxy server, such as Microsoft ISA Proxy server or other proxy software, you can install Monitor software directly on the proxy server. Any Internet traffic will pass through the gateway, therefore monitor program could capture them. Here's what the your network will look like:

If Your network doesn't belong to four options above, please use MING Chat Spy.
